We live in a world full of distraction.
For example, researchers have found that most people look at their phones around 100 times per day. Yet those same people believe they only look at their phones 30 – 40 times per day.
Which means that at least half of those times was mindless and unintentional, sucked into a stream of scrolling distractions and entertainment.
In a way, 2020 forced us to focus on one thing, a pandemic. We found ourselves adapting to living and working in new ways, ways we never imagined.
The fixed idea we had of ourselves and our vision for the future was on active volcanic ground being re-shaped by hot spreading lava.
Our external environment was completely out of our control for a while and the idea of anything being fixed was no longer.
We had no time to plan. We were just squarely in it and had to manoeuvre from there. We’ve now had some time to adjust to our current situation and also possibly think about how we would like to navigate the future.
2021 is all about being fluid.
And in that fluidity it is important to remain mindful and intentional with how we reimagine our lives so that we bring it into existence no matter the external circumstances.
“Your potential isn’t fixed, it’s limitless. However, it is you who determines how far you go. Not your genetics and not society.” (Benjamin Hardy)
If anything, 2021 is a time to throw the protective blanket off and solely focus on our lives reimagined. It’s time to break free from the boundaries of our own creating and start using our imagination and our senses to bring to life that which we have always desired.
Start Asking Questions
“What would you do if you knew you couldn’t fail and if money wasn’t an issue?” Take time to explore the answers. Think back to when you were a child for some clues on what you loved to do or wanted to be.
Get curious about everything
Keep your mind engaged. You know when kids go through that stage where they ask “why” to absolutely everything. Do the same thing, ask why and do some research to answer the questions for yourself. You might re-discover some of your hidden gifts.
Let go of being so serious and play
Open your entire being up to play. And keep playing. Whether it is writing, playing a musical instrument, arts and crafts, baking, dancing or painting, immerse yourself completely in the activity and get lost in play.
Connect to yourself.
You are what you repeatedly do.
What you repeatedly do becomes you. If you want something different, then simply do something different.
Behave like you are already the person you want to become and you already have the life you always dreamed of and in time you will be that person and have that life. I know it sounds so woo-woo, but you know what? It works.
Your body as a guiding system
Our body is our guide in letting us know whether we are moving in alignment with what we want or not. Have you ever had to make a choice and felt this dread in your body? That’s it telling you “no, not for you.”
When it feels good in your body then you are moving in the right direction.
Listening to your body is a practice. The more you practice, the stronger the guiding system becomes.
Let your imagination take you over the bridge of boundaries, let your senses drive you and let your body guide you there.
It’s time to break free from the boundaries of our own creating and start using our imagination and our senses to bring to life that which we have always desired.
When it’s over, I don’t want to wonder
If I have made of my life something particular, and real
I don’t want to find myself sighing and frightened,
Or full of argument.
I don’t want to end up simply having visited this world. (Mary Oliver)
